Equality, diversity and British values continues to feature highly in the April 2018 inspection handbook update. All staff are expected to challenge stereotypes, effectively tackle all forms of prejudice and discrimination, value the diversity of learners’ experiences and provide learners with a ‘comprehensive understanding of people and communities beyond their immediate experience’.

But how do we address Ofsted findings that the main barriers to successfully promoting British values are staff knowledge and understanding of how to actively promote British values in classroom practice and workplace learning? What strategies can we employ so staff gain the knowledge and confidence to discuss topical, sensitive and controversial topics? How can we address inspectors’ observations that too many tutors are reluctant to take risks and instead ‘play it safe’ rather than deliver creative and innovative lessons and tutorials? What about the role of business support staff?

This highly practical workshop is updated with the very latest findings from Ofsted and shares best practice in the sector. Christine will also use the day to reflect on the potential implications for E&D and British values with the introduction of the new 2019 inspection framework’
