Ensuring students pass their courses isn’t enough anymore. The Value Added and progress measures have evolved to measure progress made by learners from a particular starting point. Instead of simply focusing on student’s pass rates colleges needs to concentrate on getting high grades.
Ofsted Inspections are now increasingly focusing on progress measures. This workshop is designed to help you improve your college Value Added (progress) Scores.
The workshop will provide delegates with an overview of Value Added and progress Methodologies and will support you to develop an action plan which can be implemented at your college. This action plan will look at the overall Level 3 progress measure as well as the maths and English progress measure. It will help you identify what you should do better at your college and what steps you should take to improve your score.
This practical workshop will include case studies to demonstrate how these colleges have achieved consistently high scores.

Richard leads the strategic research and consultancy activities at RCU. He has managed major research projects for BIS, the Skills Funding Agency and the Education and Training Foundation (ETF). He has developed particular expertise in linking skills supply and skills demand and in supporting colleges with their strategic development. Prior to joining RCU in 2004 he was Deputy Principal of a large FE College and also has extensive industrial experience having worked as an electronic engineer. Recent research reports include The Impact of College Based HE for ETF and Evaluation of Community Learning Trust Pilots for BIS.
Fionnuala is a highly experienced grade 1 Outstanding teacher. She has taught in a variety of educational settings but is currently a Head of Division at a FE college in East Lancashire where both her own students and the whole college achieve outstanding value added scores. She has many years’ experience as a teacher, curriculum leader and senior Examiner. Fionnuala has co-authored textbooks and revision guides and has delivered training to teachers on a variety of topic themes, including “How to achieve outstanding value added”, “Effective assessment for learning” and “How to be an outstanding teacher”.
